He could still work with rectangles but make them into a smoother overall look.

No matter how I look at them, "A" looks like the prototype and "B" looks like a more refined version.
"B"'s torso looks as if way more thought and effort went into it. The elbows also bend in a position that would seem as if it was more suited for animation.
However, it is possible that I am missing out on something I cannot recognize in the photo.
