Probably you already know this (considering you seem to have understood what you did wrong), but, if whenever you get in a trouble with someone, you feel you have to say something so you don't feel like a pussy, it means you ain't thinking with a cool head. No matter the complexity of a problem, there are times were saying anything is unnecessary. I'm not saying you or the other guy were either good or bad (that's not my problem, i'm not gonna sneak in something I've not been called for), I just wanted to give a smol advice.
